Slow and Steady Not Looking So Good Now!

While I've been fairly consistent over the past month or so, Sae has been slowing down and speeding up sporadically. Right now, she's on a steep climb and is quickly catching up to me. Which is scary because I worked so hard to get that lead and she is going to blow my lead to smithereens in a couple of weeks.

Here's a trend graph of our work since we've started:
So much like the tortoise and the hare, the hare took a nap a couple of weeks ago and has now woken up and is speeding up to the tortoise really fast. Too fast!

Sae's insisting that its taking her so long to catch up. But to me, its happening too quickly! Hurry up and go on your holiday Sae!

Here's my pic of my progress so far. This time around, I decided to take a photo of the entire cloth, and Wow, there's so much left to do!

Tonight I'll be doing that 1 hour of big colour clump test to see how fast I stitch in comparison to Sae. I predict that I'm no way near 135. Well, we'll see..

I so enjoyed reading about your quest, as I am about to undertake my first one myself. Because I have always used stretcher strips, have never highlighted my patterns, never had to grid my cloth, and never parked stitches, I've had a lot of questions about the best techniques for working Haed designs. I especially am curious about using Q Snaps and whether I'll be able to move them around on the cloth as I progress. Such a large piece on one's lap seems overwhelming, and I hope the Q Snaps will be the best solution. You'll be so proud of your accomplishment, that you'll probably begin another. As for me, I've done so much Cross Stitch in my life ( I'm 69) that I now want to undertake the ultimate challenge. I will be following yours with great interest and following many of your suggestions. Good luck to you both. JudyJo

Competition Rules

Competition Begins: 1st May 2008
Competition Ends: Chinese New Year 2013

Goal: Complete a HAED design by the time allotted.

Designs chosen are to be of approximately the same sizes. Contestants are free to change their design half way, however it must also be of the similar size to the original design chosen.

Each month, each contestant will deposit USD$20 into a separate bank account.

Every fortnight, each contestant has to update this blog with updated progress pictures.

Prize Money:

If only one contestant completes her design by the deadline, she gets the total amount of money saved by both contestants.

If neither designs are complete, the entire sum of money is to be donated to a charity that is agreed upon by both contestants.

If both complete it on time, the money is divided in the following manner:

60% of the total goes to the contestant who completes* her design first within the deadline.

40% of the total goes to the contestant who completes* her design last within the deadline.

* For EeL, completion means full completion. For Sae, completion for the 60% winner total is 210,400 stitches, with the remainder stitches to be completed by the deadline.
